A Weekend in Paradise

What\’s summer without a trip to the ocean? Or at least the bay…

This past weekend my family and I packed up the car and drove a few hours to the beach in Alabama. I\’m not much a beach person: itchy sand, the water, too much sun, etc. Staying at our cousin\’s house on the bay was so wonderful. Because of the location, I was able to witness one of the most beautiful sunsets and bake under the guidance of my cousin. We were only there for 3 days so the trip wasn\’t too extravagant.

We actually spent the first night in Mobile because we left late in the afternoon Thursday. Before heading to the beach on Friday, we enjoyed sandwiches from Panini Pete\’s for lunch. I had the Fresh Mozzarella and Tomato Sandwich and it was SO GOOD. If you are ever in Mobile, I HIGHLY recommend going there for lunch. If I may add as a side note: the cousin that ate lunch with us did bring us there early (like 11:30) because it is a very popular cafe and gets very busy.

My cousin loves to cook and bake. In fact, the first thing she said to me when we got there was \”Oh great you\’re here! We\’re making a pound cake.\” And then she walked up stairs and I helped her make it before I went swimming. The next day while my mom and brother and other family members went fishing, I relaxed at the house, and let me just say, that it was one of the nicest, most relaxing days I\’ve had in a while. That night I, under her guidance, made focaccia bread to go with dinner. The next morning I woke up early, and we made cinnamon scones. They were so delicious and I am dying to make them again!

On the way back we stopped at a small farmers market, which wasn\’t nearly as great as I had hoped… It was small, crowed, and very hot. I did get some artsy pictures of the corn and tomatoes though, so the stop was not a complete waste. The rest of the way home however was 2 hours longer than it was supposed to take, so you can bet your butt that I napped a lot. While I spent my Father\’s Day in the car, I hope everyone else had an enjoyable day with the men in their lives!

Much Love,

Jacquelyn
