My Cyber NYFW Experience: Rodarte Review (Blog 2)

When you think of Rodarte, I hope you think of a sophisticated style that screams “Look at me!” while still conveying a mature elegance. The designs of Kate and Laura Mulleavy are synonymous with fairy tales, the only exception being that these clothes actually exist. Their Spring 21 collection, which premiered during the Fall 2020 New York Fashion Week, is different from past collections. In line with the year we’ve experienced, their designs for the Fall 2020 runway are simpler, dressed down, and more practical. They still keep the fanciful patterns and vintage silhouettes but removed the excessive tulle and lace.

With the exception of 4 dresses that remind me of a vintage prom, most of the collection appears to be more comfortable. Amid the classic 40s-like silhouettes, many of the pieces, either pants or shirts, feature a sweatband cuff or bottom hem. Additionally, within the collection, though dressed up with similar floral patterns and French phrases of adoration, sits a sweatsuit and a dress that resembles and oversized sweatshirt. While these comfortable pieces aren’t typically what we would expect to see from Rodarte, it’s definitely what we need after all that 2020 has put us through.
Keep living your daydream
