DIY Biker Shorts – A Quarantine Activity

Hey friends! I hope your quarantine is going well. A few months ago, I decided to purchase a ThredUP rescue box with the intention of reviewing it and trying everything on, but then I never did any of that. Some of the items in the box, I really liked and have worn multiple times, while some I put on Poshmark right away, but in the box was this pair of leggings from Old Navy.

Now I\’m pretty picky about my leggings. I over the years have realized that I really only like black leggings. And just in general, color blocking isn\’t something I go for every often. But I didn\’t want to just send them to Goodwill (because who knows where they would actually end up), and I didn\’t feel like I could resell them on Poshmark. So I started thinking. And I thought about it for a long time.

And then one day I came across this video  by The Sorry Girls, where Kelsey turns a pair of leggings into biker shorts. And I thought that it was such a great idea, but I still wasn\’t sure that\’s what I wanted to do. I looked for other ideas, but I kept thinking about the biker shorts. So then it was decided.

To do this, I followed their tutorial generally. But I\’ll list the changes I made below:

1. I lined my leggings up with a pair of biker shorts I already had instead of pinning the length I wanted. Since I knew I wanted them to be the same length as the other pair I had, I felt like this would be easiest. (I know the picture isn\’t the best…) 2. I used a different setting on my sewing machine. I think. (I didn\’t watch the video while making them, I was just going off of memory.) And because the general lock-stitch setting that I typically use has no stretch, I may need to look into changing it, or redoing it by hand so the seams aren\’t squeezing my thighs as much.

I\’ve worn them for walking on the treadmill a couple of times since I made them, and everything turned out great! I plan on making scrunchies with the rest of the fabric that I cut off, but that\’s another craft for another day. 🙂

Stay safe, stay healthy, stay home,

Jac
