Homecoming, Homecoming, Homecoming, Coming Home

It\’s October, which means that it\’s homecoming season and time for football!

So about a week ago was my first Kent State Homecoming! And it was fun, I guess, but compared to the grandeurs I\’m accustomed to it was definitely different.  There was no fun dance to dress up for, the tailgating wasn\’t as wild as it is in the South. We went to the parade, again it was rather underwhelming compared to the overdone Mardi Gras parades I\’m used to. The game was fun, also, but unfortunately we lost. I\’m sorry for the comparing; it\’s just hard not to. But with all of this done on a much smaller scale, it reminded me of something: how much I appreciate the low-key-ness.

I\’m an extra person by nature. I\’m often overdressed. I go as far out as I can for the holidays. But in Louisiana, I\’ve always felt it was overkill rather than just being festive. I don\’t know; call me crazy but… ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯  Regardless, it was fun!

The following weekend I went back \”home\” to Louisiana. We had Fall Break here at Kent State so I went back for the weekend. That was my second homecoming of the month. And despite it not being STM\’s Homecoming, we went to their home game against Teurlings. It was nice seeing my family and friends but weird because I don\’t live there any more. While I was there, I attended my third homecoming. UL had their homecoming this past weekend and while I didn\’t go to the game (spoiler: they won) it was still another college event that I got to dress up and celebrate for.

The following Sunday afternoon, I came home to Kent. I went from relaxing in 85 degree weather to basking in 48 degree weather. I was so nice to be back in my dorm, my new home after the little trip away. Anna wasn\’t coming back until Monday so I took the evening to unpack, which I might add that this is the first time, I think, ever that I unpacked as soon as I got home. I also did my laundry and rearranged some things in the room; I watched some movies and also enjoyed some of the gumbo that my mom made for me.

So I don\’t really know how to close this except to say I can\’t wait to one day have a permanent home… good day!

Much Love,

Jacquelyn
