How Scrunchies Saved My State of Mind

So here\’s the honest truth: I\’ve been stuck in a rut for a couple of months now. I haven\’t really been wanting to do anything, my creativity has been lacking lately, which is problematic given that my major requires creativity. While my heart is still a little heavy, or heavier than I would like it to be, the other day I had one of the best days ever. The one class I had got cancelled and I felt sick as a dog, so I laid in bed, made scrunchies from fabric scraps and watched The Handmaid\’s Tale all day. And let me tell you, I have never felt so refreshed, creative and incredible. That night, after a few weeks of having trouble sleeping, I slept so well and was in such a great day the next day.

While we are reminded day after day that we have to take care of ourselves and mental health, laying in bed or on the couch relaxing isn\’t always the cure. I mean, yes, it can help, but sometimes we have to do more than that. Lately, an issue that\’s really been wearing me down is sustainable living and sustainability and waste and saving this beautiful planet we live on because if we really think about it, we (as a whole human race, sorry to group everyone together) are not doing the best taking care of it. For a project, I ended up with some material scraps that are going to be recycled (because, fabric recycling is a thing – a rare and seldom spoken thing, but still a thing) and I decided to make scrunchies out of them. While my worries aren\’t completely gone and I\’m still looking for ways to help the earth and allay my fears the world is going to quickly fall apart, doing this minuscule thing helped me feel more at ease.

So with this burst of creativity and energy, what else am I  planning on doing? I\’m doing the things that I\’ve been saying I was going to do since school started. I have a couple of ideas for the blog that will – in a nice way – force me to post more frequently. I don\’t want to share the two ideas too soon, but one involves makeup and the other clothes (with a little self promo – sorry not sorry). I\’m still trying to think of other content I can post, the issue is that I don\’t always feel like taking pictures, so there may be some throwback outfits coming up… this time I\’m actually sorry!

But the reason most of you may be here: scrunchies! Below I have the numbers I used as far as measuring the fabric – the top numbers are in inches and the third number (if given) is the length of the elastic. I kinda mixed and matched depending on how big the fabric was given that I was using was scraps! If you have a sewing machine and elastic, it can be done a lot quicker but I just did mine using THIS method.

Much Love,

Jac
