My New York Diary: Weeks 3 + 4

This third Friday in New York, Lauren and I wanted to go to the new Harry Potter store. While we expected a line, we didn\’t expect to have approximately 600 people ahead of us in line. Luckily there was a virtual queue so we were able to go do other things while we waited. We went to the Lego Store, walked around some other shops, tried randonauting, and grabbed bagels for lunch. We also walked around the Union Square market, which was nice. We were finally able to go to the Harry Potter store around 3 in the afternoon, and it was absolutely amazing. Neither of us are super fans per se, but the detail put into the store was so cool.

On Saturday, Lauren and I took the subway about to Coney Island and laid on the beach. The only place that I got sunburnt was on my right foot, which I find kind of funny. It was a nice day and then later that night we were invited to a rooftop bar. The views of the city were really nice, and it was fun being in an environment so different from what I\’m usually in (but also kind of awkward). It was a late night but so worth it. The city might never really sleep but it does get really quiet around 2:30am.

On Sunday, we spent some time in Central Park, mostly in Strawberry Fields. It was so hot that neither of us felt like doing too much.

Monday was a slow day, which was really nice and prepared me for Tuesday. Tuesday at work I went to help at the sample sale the company was participating in and later that afternoon, I helped bring cupcakes to Washington Square Park for the founder\’s children since her assistant was out. It was a super busy day but I got a cupcake out of it! That evening Lauren and I went to the movies and local Mexican restaurant for dinner.

Wednesday, I spent most of the day in Soho shopping for three different shoe styles (black summer heels, flat brown sandals, and platform Vans). I had also wanted to stop by the Reformation sample sale but the line was super long, and I didn\’t feel like waiting. After going to so many stores, I finally found one pair of shoes that I really liked (and ended up purchasing), but I had no luck with the other shoes. I also bought a couple of things from Free People and a book from a bargain bin. While I had little luck with the shoes it was a nice afternoon to myself.

Thursday was a nice end to the work week. It was a slow day and  I hung out with Lauren and her roommates in the evening.

That Friday I saw my first NY rat! Friday night, Lauren, Lauren\’s roommate Rhitika, and I went to Mickey Spillane\’s in Hell\’s Kitchen mostly because they have $5 margs, but I ended up getting a meatball and ricotta pizza and it was so good. We saw the rat when we were walking back and I surprisingly didn\’t scream.

Saturday, Lauren and I walked the High Line and went through the LEAF flower festival near Chelsea Market. It was cool to see the overtop floral designs put together, but we didn\’t stay there long. We walked around SoHo after that and ended up going to the Reformation sample sale because the line was so short.

Sunday and Monday were both kind of lazy days for me. I had actually planned on getting a lot done on Monday, but I received an email from my landlord that someone was coming fix something in my room (something I didn\’t even know was broken), which kind of threw off my whole day. Instead I cleaned my room, cleaned it again after the guy left, and was super frustrated after everything that I just kind of shut down and binged Crime Scene Kitchen instead.

Later in the week, we ventured out in the evening going to places like Surreal (an ice cream place) and McSorley\’s (an old-time Irish pub). While the pub was cool, I liked the ice cream place a little bit more.

Much Love,  Jacquelyn
