Ranking Various Version of "Baby, It\'s Cold Outside" + What I Am Doing this December

A couple of months ago, I saw an influencer post in which she spoke about really enjoying a specific musicians music, but hated the things the musician had done. She said she felt guilty any time she listened to his songs because she didn\’t want to support him. Then one of her followers suggested that anytime she listens to his music, she could donate to group to kind of offset the bad that he had done in the world (and her current \”support\” of him because she\’s listening to his music).

 Truthfully I loved the idea.

So here\’s mine: I love Baby, It\’s Cold Outside.\” It is one of my favorite Christmas songs and I listen to many renditions all through the season. But in the 2010s and today\’s society, the song presents a different meaning, and I hate that I love the song so much.

Additionally, if you\’ve been around for awhile, you know that the past few years I\’ve done something for the 25 days of Christmas. A couple of years ago I did socks, and last year, I did 25 days of Christmas movies

So with my love for this song in one hand and trying to figure out what to do for 25 days in another, I was reminded a little fundraising campaign that a friend of mine did many years ago: Dressember. For the next 31 days, I will be wearing dresses (with the exception of when I work out, which is my rule that I\’m making for myself, and when I go to work because I\’m required to wear pants). I have also made a monetary donation which will provide an hour of trauma therapy for a cybersex trafficking survivor.

1. Glee Cast – potentially my favorite. The harmonies make my heart explode every time

2. Idina Menzel and Michael Buble – Pretty good, but I feel like they missed a lot of opportunities to really go all out on the harmonies and the showing of their vocal ranges.

3. Rufus Wainright and Sharon Ven Etten – a little too slow for my tastes. Also, I feel like thier voices lack a lot of the emotion that I crave.

4. Meghan Trainor and Brett Eldrege – their voices together in this song make me want to cry. I love it so much, however, I don\’t love all of Trainor\’s riffs here and there.

5. Seth Macfarlane and Sarah Bareilles – I truly love both of their voices (I\’m actually a really big Bareilles fan!) but I don\’t really like how they pair together. Also the music itself just has a lot going on.

6. Kelly Clarkson and Ronnie Dunn – I think Clarkson really overpowers and Dunn and that just throws me off a bit.

7. She and Him – I love that they switched the roles, but it is a little face paced to compare to what I enjoy.

8. Colbie Calliet and Gavin Degraw – could do with out the chat at the begginning. Similar to the Clarkson/Dunn rendition, Calliet seems to overpower DeGraw

9. Lady A – it has a very strong country twang. It\’s a nice rendition, but not my favorite.

10. Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Jordan – Such a classic rendition. It\’s right up there next to the Glee version. My only complaint is that it\’s like half a beat faster than what I\’d really love.

11. Frank Sinatra and Dorothy Kirsten – I think they both sound incredible, just not together. Ya know? I also, don\’t like the speaking towards the end… It\’s kind of creepy.

12. John Legend and Kelly Clarkson – Very modern-jazzy. I love the pace and they both sound amazing. Also, they changed lyrics, which I love! This is my first time listening to it and I cried… that\’s all lol.

13. Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey – The opening sounds like a Disney movie and I\’m not vibing with it. Also her voice is very breathy.

14. John Travolta and Olivia Newton John – Again with the Disney-esque opening. It sounds like they\’re trying to whisper-talk to each other, and I like it but I don\’t. It\’s very much a Grease-version. They also reversed the typical roles, like She & Him did.

15. Dean Martin – I don\’t really like that there\’s a chorus of women (or at least that\’s how it sounds) across from him. Mr. Martin sounds wonderful though.

I\’m sure there are plenty of other versions of this song that I\’ve never heard of and did not include, but out of these 15 renditions, my top three are from Glee Cast, Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Jordan, and John Legend & Kelly Clarkson. While, I\’m hoping to post on here before the end of the year, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season.

If you would like to donate to Dressember, HERE is the link to my advocate page.

Keep living your day dream,
