Red: The Blood of Angry Men

For Christmas this year, my mom got tickets for her and I to go see Les Miserables live at the Saenger in New Orleans, and wow. I may have spent a good majority of the show holding in tears. I may have also cried a little. While there are so many incredible musicals, one of my very favorites is Les Mis. It\’s just so… the music, the characters, the lessons… I\’m just obsessed. In addition, I was in the show in 8th grade. Not a major role or anything, but I have a connection.
Regardless, before our departure to the Crescent City, I was faced with what to wear. And then it was decided: the dress I wore Christmas Day. The hard part of wearing dresses for me, and this is a total first-world problem, is styling them differently than before. Because dresses make up the entirety of the outfit, you\’re left to accessorize.
First, let\’s discuss the dress: The first phrase that comes to mind when I think Les Mis is \”Red: the blood or angry men,\” which lead me to the red dress, which also has black (the dark of ages past). I decided not to button it up or down all the way to show a little more skin like the \”Lovely Ladies.\” I kind of wish I had worn my fishnet stockings again to really bring home that point.
For accessories, I decided to go with gold details. My primary inspiration with these were the gold/yellow lights from the Saenger, but connecting it to the story, Mr. Thenardier does go through the sewer looking for gold from the bodies. C\’est la vie, I guess.

That\’s all for tonight. I\’m here in Nashville and by tomorrow I\’ll be back at Kent living it up in college! Just kidding, I\’m expecting this semester to be a little bit more difficult, so I\’ll probably be studying. Good luck to all of you who recently started a new semester (or those who just need some luck!).
Much Love,
Jac
