Salt Air, and the Rust on Your Door… An Outfit Breakdown

First of all, happy first day of August. I hope you all enjoyed my reference to the Taylor Swift song. I personally love August because to me it signifies Fall. I know the first day of Autumn isn\’t until September, but growing up in Colorado the weather would always start to cool down in August around the time school started, which meant fall to me.
Yesterday as I walked through the Flatiron District, I realized that my outfit made up of some of my favorite and most-worn pieces. Because I love these items so much, I\’ve decided to talk about them in today\’s post.
Let\’s start at the bottom: my leopard-print shoes. These are by Tommy Bahama and were one of my first purchases after I moved to New York in May. I got them at a TJ Maxx on 8th when I was looking for some stuff for my room. They are incredibly comfortable and have been one of my go-to pairs of shoes this summer.
Moving on to the jeans, these American Eagle jeans were a Marshall\’s find from the summer of 2018. While they were intended to be ripped, someone ripped one of the holes bigger so they were considered a damaged item and on clearance for $3. While I\’ve never been a fan of ripped jeans, I loved the extra-large hole and the fit. Also: Three. Dollars. I couldn\’t pass that up. These have been my favorite jeans over the years and I wear them all the time, so much there a new hole near the pocket that I need to fix somehow!

This shirt is another newer purchase. I got it in March 2021 from the Free People Poshmark account, and it has quickly become one of my go-to tops. I love it so much I\’ve been playing with the idea of buying another one in a different color. (But then comes the question, will I wear the other color as much as I wear the black one? Would that purchase be worth it?) I love how it fits, and I love that I don\’t have to wear a bra with it.
The last piece is this yellow scarf. While I have a lot of scarves – maybe too many depending on who you ask – this one is one that I always reach for. It was a collaboration item between Amber Fillerup Clark and Lighthouse for Hope to support childhood cancer. It looks like it\’s still available here if you\’re interested!
As I thought about this post (and finish writing it) and think about my arrival home soon, I\’ve come to two realizations: 1) As much as I thrift (and love thrifting), I find it incredibly ironic that none of these items were thrifted. From a sustainability standpoint, it\’s alright as long as I care for these items as long as I can. 2) As much as I\’m loving living in NYC, I kind of can\’t wait to get home and go through my closet. In the past six months or so I\’ve gone through an evolution in my style and life. I\’ve been saying for years that I\’ve wanted to narrow down the clothes in my closet to only the things that truly bring me joy (like the items I mentioned above). Anyway… check out my Poshmark closet! As I start clearing things out a lot of the items will probably end up there.
Much Love,
Jacquelyn
