Small Town Independence Day pt. 2

For the second year in a row, we spent the Fourth of July in a small town. Now I know I\’ve always had an undying love for small towns comparable to Stars Hollow and Riverdale, so the Upper Peninsula of Michigan was so ideal given that these small towns essentially make up the area. While my love for holidays is extreme, my love for the Fourth isn\’t as great as say my love for Christmas, so the small town celebrations are truthfully the best way to celebrate America\’s birthday. Also, I think there\’s something special about celebrating in a small town that\’s maintained so much of their history and participation in America\’s history as a whole.
While we were staying in Houghton, so many areas around us had so many parades, so we asked our friends, residents of the area to pick what they thought was best. We ended up going to a small parade and driving to the upper tip of the peninsula for fireworks. In between that, we stopped by Fitzgerald\’s Restaurant where they hosted a block party of sorts in front of there restaurant. We were able to eat some of their barbecue (because what\’s more American than barbecue on the Fourth) and walk down to the rocky beach of Lake Superior. And even a few days later, the water was freezing.
The town shot off the fireworks from a distant island which allowed for us to lie by Lake Superior and watch them in the sky. It was so neat to see them reflect on the lake and to see all the smoke as the breeze carried it across the water. I wanted to take a picture but it was too dark, so the picture never would\’ve done it justice. Unless proven otherwise, I\’m convinced that Michigan does the Fourth best.
As far as my outfit was concerned, I brought this cute jumpsuit from Target for the sole purpose of wearing it for the Fourth of July. The sandals I\’ve had for couple of years, but they\’re from Shoe Station. And naturally, I wore my MAC Russian Red Lipstick because this red is the perfect shade for the holiday. As far as these pictures are concerned, I wanted to apologize for how cloudy some of them are…
Hope you all had a fun holiday and have a great weekend!
Much Love, Jac
