Spring 2021: A Semester Review

This semester started off a little bit different compared to other semester. For starters, I was in a very bad place mentally and ended up having to drop one my classes. While it was okay for me to do this and still worked with my schedule/plan to graduate, it was very upsetting to me that I wasn\’t able to push through and finish the course. But when it comes to mental health, I think it\’s important to realize that sometimes we have to make concessions and put ourselves first.

Aside from that, I over the course of the semester came up with different nicknames for it. They include \”The Semester Where No One Answered Emails,\” \”A Battle Against Technology: Spring 2021,\” and \”Everyone\’s Tired.\” And while it was frustrating that some of my professors took days to answer emails, I think it\’s important to keep in mind everything that\’s going on in the world on top of Zoom University.

While it may have started out rocky, I did get a little better. Eventually I got into the swing of things. And then I moved back to Lafayette, started a new job and had to create a new swing of things. And at the end of the day (or semester, I guess), I\’m exhausted. Online school and working two jobs is exhausting. Additionally, I reached a point during the semester where I just didn\’t want to get on another Zoom call. I\’m tired of seeing my own face on the screen.

I ended up taking five classes this semester. They included Professional Seminar, My Story on The Web, Advanced Visual Design Media, Computer Apps in Retailing, and Planning and Buying. Unlike last semester, I don\’t have quite as much to show for this because I\’m sure none of you are really interested in the reflection/analysis essays or spreadsheets I completed for the semester.

In Professional Seminar, we went in depth of workforce and work place behavior. This also included assignments on proper dress and dining etiquette. Computer Applications in Retail and Planning and Buying overlapped in many ways. While Planning and Buying focused on teaching us retail math and how the planning and buying decisions are made, Computer Apps was more application based and worked almost entirely in Microsoft Excel.  (As I love of spreadsheets, I really enjoyed this class.)

Visual Design Media and My Story on the Web also overlapped in some ways. In Visual Design, we covered Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. My Story on the Web worked in Adobe Rush, Audition, Illustrator, and Photoshop. We also did a little bit with WordPress. In this class I learned that while I know how to use these programs graphic design is not my forte. Below is some of my work:

So what\’s next? I have one more full semester left until I graduate (queue internal panic about post-grad life) and I\’m spending the summer in New York to complete an internship with Marchesa. Additionally, I\’m taking over as the Social Media Director for the Kent State Chapter for Her Campus, and then I graduate in December from Kent. I\’m nervous but super excited! It\’s surreal that my dream of going to/living in New York is finally coming true and that I\’ll be graduating so soon!

Much Love,
