Year in Review: A Reflection on This Year\'s Resolutions

It\’s almost that time of year again. That time of year where most of us list ways in which we\’d like to improve in our lives. I personally think the emphasis on change in the New Year is kind of BS, given that I spent so many years thinking that when the clock strikes midnight my life would change drastically. It took years for me to realize that I have to be the change and that the start of the New Year won\’t necessarily change anything – this isn\’t Cinderella. With that realization and the knowledge that I\’m not super woman, I tried last year to set reasonable goals. They were as follows: \”keeping my room clean, starting to save my money/spending my own money, not buying stupid things, eating healthier, and cooking more for myself.\” So let\’s reflect… Keeping my Room Clean I\’m not a naturally organized person, but I like to organize. My personal room is a mess and when it gets bad enough, I decide to reorganize and move things around. I have yet to find a furniture placement that I really enjoy. End result: my room is messy frequently. As for my dorm, I have tried to clean it every weekend, but that doesn\’t always happen… End result: it\’s amazing how messy my room can get during the week.  Starting to Save my Money/Spending my Own Money I personally feel like I rocked this goal! I saved almost all my money that I made during the summer babysitting and then I quickly spent most of it during my first semester of college! Ok, maybe I need to work better on the next challenge… Not Buying Stupid Things In my defense, The Balm\’s 50% sale was great and I got a lot of products that I do use. And that outfit I bought for Rush (before I dropped) was super cute. And those winter hats by Something Navy – so cute! But maybe I don\’t need another hat, and maybe I could\’ve worn something I already had. It\’s a learning thing that I\’m working on.

Eating Healthier Eh. I do eat a little healthier when I eat in KSU\’s dining hall – I eat a lot of salads and their food is properly proportioned. Before college, I did tend to watch what I ate. I don\’t know this hard to explain. My eating habits have definitely changed, though. I don\’t eat as much; I listen to my body more; etc. Though this isn\’t a direct correlation, I\’ve lost around 10 pounds the past year, which is definitely a benefit of some sort.

Cooking for Myself More I\’ve definitely gotten more creative in the kitchen. I haven\’t really gotten the chance to cook lately given that I\’ve been in the dorms, but I love cooking when I get home and I\’m hoping next year that I\’ll be living in a dorm or apartment that has a kitchen.  As far as this look is concerned, this was one of my travel outfits to Butte, Montana! The tope half (shirt and scarf) were thrifted and the bottom half (jeans and boots were bought). The boots were one of my few Black Friday purchases.

Much Love, Jac
