My NYC Diary: Weeks 11+12

Hello, and welcome to the final entry in my NYC diary. I’ll admit: I’ve been putting this off a little bit. Part of this is due to moving back to Lafayette, moving up to Kent, and starting classes and everything. But I think part of me, just doesn’t want to admit that my summer in New York is over.
With that said, my last couple weeks in New York were very low-key. I was stressed about packing and moving. I was packing things to make sure they’d fit, then unpacking them. Shipping things home, then going to the store for another box to ship more things. Cooking at home to use up my leftover food that I hadn’t eaten. You know, just typical moving things I guess.

But picking up where we left off, that Saturday I started off my day at the Union Square market where I bought the most beautiful bottle of wine. I stopped at my favorite store, Fishs Eddy, where I bought a plate. And then I ventured over to Old Navy where I bought a pair of overalls that fit me perfectly. I Had lunch at Glur, this little Thai place. That Sunday I met up with a girl that I knew from Her Campus. We walked around Grand Central Station and then had dinner at Anejo.

While Monday and Tuesday, were moderately boring. I spent Wednesday at the American Museum of Natural History. While it was cool to see the museum and the part featured in the Night at the Museum filmed, I very quickly learned that the movie is not exactly accurate of the real life museum. My favorite parts were the sections on the Halls of Pacific People and African Peoples. I also really enjoyed the Gems and Minerals Hall.

That Friday, I walked around Midtown and the Rockefeller Shopping Center. I went into the American Girl Store and the new Lego Store. Then I hung out in Bryant Park a little bit with my Joe and Juice smoothie. On Saturday, I did essentially the same thing, except I went to the MLB flagship store.

That Monday, I grabbed a bagel at the UES Pick-a Bagel that I ate as I passed Tiffany & Co. (because Breakfast at Tiffany’s… duh). Then I headed farther up to the Met, which was HUGE. I got a little lost, and I’m sure there’s so much that I missed while I was there. My only tip is to enter the exhibits from one of the sides, not the middle like I did (it left me trying to decide which was to go, and contributed to my confusion). I really loved the American art exhibit as well as the open archives. There was another section with 18th century living spaces had been recreated, which I loved.

That Wednesday, I went to the Upper West Side for some shopping. Later that evening I went to dinner with another friend at ZoobZib, which was so good. Also bonus points that they have 24/7 happy hour. I had the Chicken Garlic Noodle Soup, which was amazing, some curry puffs, and a lychee martini.

That Saturday, I went to dinner with another friend. We went to NONONO, a Japanese restaurant. I had the crab fried rice with a Suikarita. Afterwords, we hung out in Madison Square park and gushed over how beautiful the Empire State Building is at night…

The following day, I did some more shopping. Mostly looking this time though. On that Monday, I spent the afternoon in Central Park just kind of wandering around. I went to the statues of Romeo and Juliet, Beldevere Castle, the Bethesda Fountain, the mother goose statue, and many other areas I don’t recall the name of. I finished my tour at the Plaza hotel and walked past the luxury stores on my way back.

My last two days in New York were spent at my Internship at Marchesa. The CEO and founder had meetings with investors on the Wednesday, so we spent most of Tuesday and Wednesday merchandising the show room so that it looked nice for the meetings.

Going back to Lafayette was a hard adjustment since the day before I had been in a gorgeous showroom with dresses worn by celebrities. And while my time in New York might be over I still have some New York-related blog posts (and Instagram posts) to put out into the universe, so bear with me 🙂
Much Love, Jacquelyn
